When I heard that my sister has breast cancer, a dark storm cloud suddenly covered my day. I could only imagine how scared, lost, and overwhelmed by the unknown she must feel?
I want to tell you that, as believers, we have a secret weapon: God’s strength and hope. This blog post is a shoutout to my sisters Rika and Elize, and all the amazing women fighting this battle. I want to give you some words of encouragement, practical tips, and most importantly, show you how God’s Word can be your rock during this tough time
Lean on God’s Promises
The first thing I want you to remember is that you are not alone. Isaiah 41:10 reminds us, “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Know that God walks with us every step of the way, even when our path feels uncertain.
Whenever you feel the weight of your diagnosis, return to this promise. God’s strength is made perfect in our weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9), and you don’t have to fight this breast cancer battle on your own.

Practical Tips for Your Journey
- Surround Yourself with Supportive People
Lean into your community. Whether it’s family, friends, or a local church group, these people can be sources of comfort and prayer. Let them help you with meals, appointments, and just being there to listen.
Proverbs 17:17 reminds us, “A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.” Allow your loved ones to be there for you during this time. - Nourish Your Body and Soul
Breast Cancer treatment can take a physical and emotional toll on you. So, remember to feed not only your body, but also your soul. Eat nourishing and healthy foods to keep your strength up, but also make time to rest in God’s presence. Meditate on verses like Psalm 23, where David writes, “The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside quiet waters, He refreshes my soul.” - Stay Grounded in Prayer
Prayer is a powerful tool, not only for healing but for peace. Whether you pray for yourself or ask others to intercede on your behalf, never underestimate the power of prayer. As it says in Philippians 4:6-7, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” - Give Yourself Grace
There will be days when you feel strong, and days when you don’t. That’s okay. The important thing is to extend grace to yourself on the harder days. Remember that God is your refuge in times of trouble (Psalm 46:1). His Grace will carry you through the highs and lows of your journey.

Find Strength in God’s Word
There will be days when you just don’t have the strength. This is when you must cling to God’s Word. Joshua 1:9 commands, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” We may not know what tomorrow brings, but we do know the One who holds it.
Trust in God’s Plan
I’m sure that right now you simply cannot understand why this is happening to you. Please look at the Bible that reassures us that God has a plan for your life. Jeremiah 29:11 declares, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Believe that no matter what comes, God’s plan for you is filled with hope and purpose.
